GOLD EXPLORATION IN MALI
With a gold production of close to 2 million oz, Mali is currently the 4th largest gold producer in Africa and the 13th most important gold producing country worldwide. Six gold mines have been put into production over the last 20 years. Five are currently producing in Mali:
  • Morila 5.5 million oz gold
  • Kalana 2 million oz gold
  • Sadiola 10 million oz gold
  • Yatela 2 million oz gold
  • Loulo 3 million oz gold
  • Tabakoto 0.9 million oz gold

One more is under construction and plans to start production in 2008.

  • Syama 6 million oz gold

Gold exploitation has been a traditional activity in Mali for more than 1000 years.

Malian authorities are encouraging international companies to work in Mali, as this activity is crucial to the country’s economy.
