ROBEX – DRILLING RESULTS ON THE DIANGOUNTE PROPERTY IN WEST MALI
(TSX : RBX).
Montreal - Robex Resources Inc (TSX-V: RBX), Robex announces the results of the drilling program carried out on Diangounte in May – June 2006, of a total of 2,079 meters of reverse circulation (RC) drilling over 24 holes.
The drill hole profiles were essentially placed and oriented on the basis of the recent artisanal gold digging which had started in mid– 2005. The mineralization observed in the gold diggers excavations was confirmed at depth in the RC drilling. The free and often coarse gold is hosted in quartz veins associated with narrow, S-E trending, sub-vertical shears. The shear zones indifferentially affect the mafic to ultramafic intrusive to hypovolcanic substratum and a later phase of magnetic, hornblende bearing granite-granodiorite-tonalite and hornblendite bodies. The rock displays intense silicification and sericitisation along the mineralised veins / shears and a metallic mineral association composed of pyrite and chalcopyrite.
The very limited thickness of the shear zones and low density of mineralized veins explains why the ground IP gradient geophysical survey, completed in early 2006, failed to be of much use in identifying drilling targets. The fact that the gold is not associated with arsenic also poses the problem of its limited surface tracability in an often transported regolithic regime. The rich but very narrow ore bodies uncovered are sufficient to explain the presence of the nearby La Corne placer. The next exploration or development programme at Diangounte has yet to be determined.
Drilling samples were analyzed at the ABILAB Laboratory in Bamako.
Location map of the drill holes is available here.
